M53 Mirror

The Mirage 2000 is the 3rd generation of the Mirage fighter jets, after the Mirage III and Mirage F1.
This plane made its first flight in 1978 and today, it still makes up the backbone of the French air force. Even though it is being replaced by the Rafale, the Mirage 2000 still performs missions requiring superiority in the air (Mirage 2000-5), tactical strike (Mirage 2000D) and nuclear deterrent (Mirage 2000N).
About 600 planes were manufactured.

Diameter of the mirror : 76 cm
Diameter of the glass part : 67.5 cm

The M53 which propels it, is an engine of a 9 / 10-ton class thrust. It is the most powerful military turbojet developed by SNECMA. This engine was first studied at the end of the 1960s.
Titanium is extensively used in its design. Only in the hot parts (combustion chamber, high pressure compressor) are stainless steel alloys still used.

This piece made of titanium was dipped in a chemical bath in order to recover its original shine then underwent a heat flash to maintain it. The delicate pattern looks like lace.
